Taarka Starts 2014 Spring Tour

We are so glad to be back in our home state of Colorado. Our little town of Lyons is still working hard to recover from the flood event of September 2013, but recover it will. We’re doing our best to bring joy and light and story to the town and the area with our music. We spent much of the winter in Virginia, and recorded a new album, which we anticipate releasing in early May. (Stay tuned for updates on release date!) Then we headed home, and boy, have we been busy since.

In early March, David and Enion were a part of the Lyons Project – a presentation of interviews, photos, and film footage put together by Boulder filmmaker Jim Fricker, combined with new music put together by a great band including members of Front Range acts The Railspliltters, Monocle, and of course, TAARKA. Sally Van Meter and the Watergirls (of which Enion is also a part) performed as well. It was a great night and lots of funds were raised for the Lyons Community Foundation, which has been a huge help in restoring our town. Enion’s in the studio right now with Jake Schepps’ Expedition Quintet, including the members of the Matt Flinner Trio, recording new classical music written for bluegrass stringband.

And after all that’s done, Taarka hits the road again! We are super excited, because our next several shows on the Front Range are going to be with the Matt Flinner Trio! Matt, Eric Thorin, and Ross Martin are musicians we have the utmost respect for, and always enjoy hearing and working with. You won’t want to miss these shows – we’ve got tons of new music up our sleeves, and the chance to hear the Matt Flinner Trio’s sublime instrumental music should always be taken. Have a listen at www.mattflinner.com.

After spending a few more weeks on the home turf, we head west for shows in California and Oregon. We’ll be starting off in San Francisco, at Amnesia, and are delighted to be collaborating with Nat Keefe of Hot Buttered Rum String Band on a show there on April 18. Please check our website for details and all our other shows on that tour. When we head home, we’ll be playing a few festivals in Colorado and beyond, including one of our favorites – Meadowgrass at La Foret in Colorado Springs. We look forward to seeing you!
